Arianna Huffington, of the Huffington Post, is quoted in Chapter 4 stating, ”If not for the Internet, Barack Obama would not be president or even the democratic nominee.” Arianna is hinting at the power of social media, and how Obama’s campaign leveraged that power in the election. The 2012 election was no different in that BOTH candidates utilized social media to ramp up their campaign.
Now, one study is going as far as to say that social media, and Twitter in particular, is statistically significant in determining the success of a candidate.
